Recently, the national standard "Marine Drinking Water Purification Devices" (GB/T14358-2026), which LIGHTBEST participated in drafting , has been officially released and will be officially implemented on February 1, 2027. The promulgation of this standard not only fills a gap in the industry, but also provides a scientific basis for the production, testing and certification of marine drinking water purification devices, and strongly promotes the standardized development of the entire industry.

The newly implemented national standard "Marine Drinking Water Purification Devices" (GB/T 14358-2026) differs from the old national standard (GB/T 14358-2015) in several aspects. These differences reflect technological advancements, industry development, and changes in practical needs, as detailed below:

Technical requirements

· Increased Purification Efficiency Standards : With the continuous advancement of water treatment technology and higher requirements for the health and safety of seafarers, the new national standard sets stricter standards for the purification efficiency of marine drinking water purification devices. While the old standard may have only required the removal of common suspended solids and some bacteria, the new standard may specify requirements for the removal of smaller particle size pollutants, various viruses, and emerging pollutants to ensure that the purified water meets higher safety standards.

· Stricter Material Safety Requirements : The new national standard will pay closer attention to the safety of materials in water-contacting purification devices. In addition to meeting basic requirements for non-toxicity and odorlessness, it may impose more detailed regulations on materials' corrosion resistance, aging resistance, and potential impact on water quality, preventing the release of harmful substances during use and ensuring the long-term health of crew members.

· The introduction of intelligent and automated requirements : Considering the need for intelligent equipment management in modern ships, the new national standard may encourage or require marine drinking water purification devices to have certain intelligent and automated functions. For example, it may require the device to be able to monitor water quality parameters in real time, automatically adjust purification process parameters, and have functions such as fault early warning and remote monitoring, so as to improve the operating efficiency and reliability of the equipment and reduce the workload of the crew.

Regarding experimental methods

· Increased Testing Items : To more comprehensively evaluate the performance of marine drinking water purification devices, the new national standard will add some new testing items. For example, in addition to routine physical, chemical, and microbiological index testing, it may add testing on the device's ability to remove heavy metals, organic pollutants, and disinfection byproducts, so as to more accurately reflect the device's purification effect on different types of pollutants.

· Updated Testing Methods : With the development of testing technology, the new national standard will adopt more advanced and accurate testing methods. For example, in water quality testing, high-precision instrumental analysis methods may be introduced to improve the sensitivity and accuracy of testing; in device performance testing, simulation test methods that are closer to actual operating conditions may be adopted, so that the test results can better reflect the performance of the device in actual operation.

Inspection rules

· Sampling rule adjustments : The new national standard may optimize the sampling rules based on factors such as the scale of the manufacturing enterprise and the stability of product quality. For enterprises with stable quality and good reputation, the number or frequency of sampling may be appropriately reduced; while for new entrants or enterprises whose product quality is at risk of fluctuation, sampling inspection will be strengthened to ensure that products circulating in the market meet the standard requirements.

· the judgment rules for product qualification . It will not only specify the acceptable limits for each performance indicator, but also classify the importance of different indicators. For critical indicators related to safety and health, stricter judgment standards may be adopted; if any one critical indicator fails to meet the standard, the product will be deemed unqualified. For general indicators, a certain range of deviation may be allowed.

Marking, packaging, transportation and storage

· Improved labeling information : The new national standard will require products to provide more detailed information on the label. In addition to basic information such as product name, model, and manufacturer, it may also be necessary to indicate the product's applicable scope, main technical parameters, usage precautions, and implementation standard number, so as to facilitate users to correctly select and use the product.

· Increased Packaging Requirements : To ensure products are not damaged during transportation and storage, the new national standard imposes higher requirements on packaging. For example, it requires packaging materials to have good moisture-proof, shock-proof, and rust-proof properties; packaging design must comply with transportation safety regulations; and special protective measures must be in place for vulnerable parts.

· clearly stipulate the transportation and storage conditions of the products, such as avoiding exposure to sunlight and rain, and violent vibration during transportation; the storage environment should be dry, ventilated, and free of corrosive gases, so as to prevent the performance of the products from deteriorating or being damaged due to environmental factors during transportation and storage.
